On October 2020, the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed assessed the approval of Allium cepa L. bulb extract as a basic substance.
On January 2021, the EU Regulation 2021/81 gave the substance its new status and on February 17, after the established 24 months period from the Applicant’s request, the onion bulb extract is officially approved as a basic substance.
The number of approved basic substances thus rises to 23, marking the evidence of a growing interest in the use of natural origin’ elements allowing the control of pests harmful to agriculture in an effective way, with low environmental impact and with a reduced residue content.
The Allium cepa L. extract bulb (onion bulbs) will be usable – exclusively with fungicidal action – on potatoes, tomatoes and cucumbers.
