The European Commission has recently published the draft regulation approving  the active substance prallethrin for use in PT18 biocidal products (insecticides, acaricides and products to control other arthropods) in accordance with Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012.

The approval date of the active substance is set for 1 March 2026 and its expiry date will be 29 February 2036.

The Annex to the Regulation contains some data on prallethrin (CAS: 23031-36-9, EC: 245-387-9), such as the minimum degree of purity of the evaluated substance and the specific conditions to which both the authorisations of biocidal products containing this active substance and the placing on the market of treated articles will be subject.

Furthermore, the opinion of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) concludes that prallethrin meets the requirements to be considered a candidate substance for substitution according to Article 10 of Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012, as it is very persistent and toxic.

The adoption of the measure is scheduled for September 2024.
