The European Chemicals Agency’s (ECHA) Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) concluded its discussions on the approval of ethanol as an active substance in disinfectants, but did not reach an opinion during the recent BPC meeting (BPC-57).
The Committee will resume its work in February 2026 and the final opinion is now expected no earlier than May 2026, after which the European Commission will make the final decision.
