Companies can start submitting their microplastics reporting to ECHA

On 26 November 2025, ECHA announced that the IUCLID software and the REACH-IT submission tool have now been fully implemented for the preparation and submission of microplastics emissions reporting to the Agency.

Several supporting documents have been prepared and published by ECHA to assist companies in preparing their reporting dossiers, including guidelines, an IUCLID manual, a video tutorial and a pre-filled IUCLID dataset (.i6z).

Reporting to ECHA is mandatory for companies that produce and place on the market microplastics whose uses are exempted from the ban but fall under one or more derogations. In particular, reporting obligations apply if you are:

  • a manufacturer and/or industrial downstream user of microplastics in the form of pellets, flakes or powders used as feedstock in plastic manufacturing at industrial sites. In this case, the first reporting deadline is 31 May 2026.
  • another manufacturer of microplastics or other industrial downstream user. In this case, the first reporting deadline is 31 May 2027.
  • a supplier of medicinal and veterinary medicinal products, food additives, in vitro diagnostic devices, or products containing microplastics that are contained by technical means, permanently modified or permanently incorporated into a solid matrix during their intended use, and placed on the market for the first time for professional users and the general public. In this case, the first reporting deadline is 31 May 2027.
