ECHA is publishing guidance documents to help applicants comply with the legal obligations of the European positive list and is developing IT tools for data management. The Drinking Water Directive (DWD) guidelines consist of four volumes covering testing and acceptance methodologies for substances, the scope of DWD applications, and the contents of the intention notification. A fifth volume, prepared by the Joint Research Centre, will be published in 2025.
In accordance with Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2024/365, ECHA has established guidelines for testing physicochemical properties, toxicological properties, migration, and confirmation of relevant chemical species. The list of metallic material categories is provided in a separate document. Deviations are allowed only if specified by the legislation.
The IUCLID format must be used for DWD notifications and applications. Additionally, ECHA is developing an online tool for data submission, with further details to be announced soon.
