On May 8, 2024, the European Commission asked ECHA to expand the REACH restriction proposal to include at least 12 chromium (VI) substances. This update is in addition to the original request from September 2023, which covered only chromium trioxide and chromic acids.
Now, the updated assignment covers chromium (VI) substances listed in entries 16-22 and 28-31 of the REACH Authorization List, as well as considering other substances such as barium chromate. The new deadline for the proposed restriction is April 11, 2025. ECHA will launch a second call for evidence in June and hold a webinar on June 6, 2024 to discuss the results and additional information needed.
