On January 20, 2025, the Netherlands announced its intention to propose formaldehyde, classified as a category 1B carcinogen, for inclusion in the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). This step could have paved the way for its future restriction under Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation.
However, on February 6, 2025, the country unexpectedly withdrew the proposal. We await further clarifications and updates on the possible implications of this change. As always, we will continue to monitor the situation to provide you with timely and accurate information.
