The European Commission has tasked EFSA and ECHA with assessing a recent study raising new concerns about the potential carcinogenic effects of glyphosate and related products. A thorough review of the available data has been requested, including raw data and technical details on the products tested, to determine whether the new findings could impact the conclusions of previous scientific evaluations.
EFSA will need to assess whether these new results affect the outcome of the glyphosate renewal process concluded in 2023. ECHA will update its risk classification opinion within 15 months of receiving the data, while EFSA must publish a statement within six months of that update.
