The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is currently holding public consultations on applications for the authorization of chromium trioxide uses. C&E Plating Limited and Linde AMT UK Ltd have submitted applications for its use in decorative chrome plating and for coatings on metallic articles in harsh environments, respectively. These applications detail high temperature corrosion resistance and anti-fouling properties for various industrial applications including automotive and marine sectors.
Under Article 64 of the UK REACH Regulation, HSE seeks additional information on potential alternatives to these uses. Stakeholders are invited to submit scientific and technical information via the commenting webform by the deadline of 3 June 2024. All non-confidential submissions will be published on the HSE website, where details of ongoing applications and granted authorizations can also be found.
