The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is strengthening chemical safety in the EU through new restrictions and updated guidelines, as outlined in the section “Current Activities on Restrictions”, with a particular focus on Annex XV of the REACH Regulation. ECHA is updating its guidance for the safe use of industrial solvents such as DMF, NMP, DMAC, and NEP, extending its applicability to a broader range of chemical substances. It is also developing an explanatory guide to support the implementation of EU Regulation 2023/2055, which bans the intentional addition of microplastics to products.
Guidelines for measuring and limiting formaldehyde emissions and formaldehyde release from articles and vehicles are currently being prepared, as required by EU Regulation 2023/1464. Additionally, the European Commission has requested the development of a restriction dossier for certain substances containing Chromium VI and related compounds, with the goal of transitioning from an authorization-based approach to a more effective restriction system.
