The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has published the new 2025 Regulation, SI No. 299, which introducing significant changes to the Fees and Charges under the UK REACH regime, administered by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Starting from 1 April 2025, the Regulation establishes a standard fee for all companies (micro, small, medium, and large) registering substances, regardless of the tonnage band. In addition, procedures for updating and amending registration data have been reorganised to be clearer and more consistent.
The changes result in cost savings for companies registering medium to high volumes, but also an increase in costs for registrations in the lowest tonnage band (1–10 tonnes per year).
This revision aims to simplify the system, encourage compliance, and reduce administrative burdens for companies operating in the UK chemical sector.
