The deadlines set by concerning synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM) are approaching, introducing new reporting obligations for affected companies.
Key deadlines to keep in mind:
- 31 May 2026: for producers and downstream industrial users of SPM in the form of pellets, flakes, or powders used in plastic production at industrial sites
- 31 May 2027: for all other manufacturers, suppliers, and users of SPM
The reporting requires annual submission to ECHA of several pieces of information, including:
- description of SPM uses during the previous calendar year
- identification of the polymers used
- estimation of the quantities of SPM released during the previous calendar year
- indication of any applicable exemptions for each use
