Introduction:

Endocrine disruptors (EDs) are substances or mixtures that alter one or more functions of the endocrine system and consequently cause adverse effects in an intact organism, its progeny, populations or subpopulations. Great interest has risen in recent years on EDs given the increased consciousness on their human health toxicity as well as their toxicity for the environment.

Since its entering in force, Regulation EC 1107/2009 has considered fundamental to investigate whether or not an active substance had endocrine disrupting properties. This applies to both new and renewal active substances. As of today, following the entry into force of the Guideline that ECHA and EFSA published together in 2018 much progress has been made in the identification of these substances. However, the criteria are still limited to hazard identification.

This training will provide you with knowledge on the definition of ED under the PPP regulation, regulatory aspects for the evaluation of ED properties of active substances and co-formulants, technical guidelines for the evaluation of ED properties for the environment and for human health, and triggers for ED properties.
