EU commissioner Séjourné announced that the European Commission is working on the awaited REACH revision, expected for next year. The REACH revision aims to modernise the regulatory framework to increase competitiveness within the EU, without compromising the protection of human health and the environment.
The revision will mainly focus on:
- simplifying the system of authorisations and restrictions by reducing the need for individual requests of authorisation and basing the approach instead on broader restrictions
- supporting companies through digitalization
- strengthening obligations for online sales
- improving information requirements (ED properties)
- promoting non-animal testing
- reducing harmful discharges in water and facilitate an efficient use of water in industries
- strengthening the regulation on PFAS
- speeding up REACH procedures and strengthening ECHA’s governance
