On December 19, 2024, the European Commission adopted Regulation (EU) 2024/3190, prohibiting the use of bisphenol A (BPA) and some of its derivatives in materials and objects intended for food contact. This amends Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and repeals Regulation (EU) 2018/213.
The main objective is to protect public health by reducing exposure to harmful chemicals. Limited exceptions are provided for essential industrial applications with minimal BPA migration.
Operators must seek safe alternatives to comply with the new requirements, which will come into effect 20 days after the official publication.
